Our Mission
As the Mother Church of Black Catholics in the Nation’s Capital, St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church is called to witness our faith in the Living God, His Son, and the Holy Spirit while preserving our Black Catholic Heritage.
We are a strong community of believers who continues in the tradition in which it was founded: to advance the education of our children; lead ALL people to a personal and life-changing encounter with Christ through the proclamation of the Gospel, celebration of the sacraments, prayer, and service; and promote the spiritual, economic, and social development of all people.
A Message From Our Pastor, Father Patrick A. Smith
At St. Augustine, We Joyfully Embrace The Call To Discipleship
Inspired by the Great Commission in Matthew 28—"Go therefore and make disciples..."— we see this not just as a directive, but as a sacred invitation to grow in faith, share God’s love, and walk with others on the journey of spiritual transformation.
Worship Attend Mass weekly, by illness or travel. Gathering for worship nourishes us with the Word and Sacraments, reminding us of our identity and granting us the grace to love God and one another.
Grow Engage in daily scripture reading and prayer, participate in Bible study, and commit to at least one faith formation program annually.
Give Give generously, in proportion to your means, to support the parish’s mission and outreach programs.
Serve Each person has unique gifts to offer. Every member is encouraged to participate in at least one ministry each year.
Connect Actively contribute to the community, seeing yourself as integral to parish life and intentionally reaching out to others—embodying the spirit of being “of one heart and mind” (Acts 4:32).
