"…In the service of the Lord, work not half-heartedly but with conscientiousness and an eager spirit. Be joyful in hope, persevere in hardship; keep praying regularly; share with any of God’s holy people who are in need; look for opportunities to be hospitable.”
Roman 12:1-2,6-8,11-13.
The Ministers of Hospitality include a wonderful array of members of diverse backgrounds, talents, skills and gifts. We have adult ushers, youth ushers (14-18 yeas old), and senior ushers (who have served 25 - 50 years). We are comprised of single, married and widowed persons; parents; siblings; friends; working and retired, etc. It is this very diversity that makes us successful in our service to our parish community.
The Ministers of Hospitality engage in a broad range of activities, all of which involve our primary mission of service as ushers within our parish. Other activities include: 1) our annual retreat in which we come together in solidarity to renew our spiritual selves, our purpose and focus to this ministry; 2)making recommendations to the Parish Counsel of college-bound youth ministers to be awarded annual care-baskets; and 3) most recently we have begun a new tradition of adopting a needy family for Christmas.
Officially since 1947, and in actuality since 1858, we the Ushers of Saint Augustine have provided hospitality at the liturgical assemblies of the parish. As ushers we perform our services with warm dedication and a commitment to serve God and God’s people as they enter into God’s house of prayer and worship. It is our duty to greet everyone as Christ has taught us. We have been called into this ministry to uphold the principles of Christian piety, service and witness. To this mission we pledge ourselves.
The Ushers Committee/Ministers of Hospitality meets on the Second Saturday of every month, in the Gingras Center, at 10:00 a.m. Though we serve as ushers year-round, in July and August we recess from meetings.
Membership is open to all registered members of the Parish who are able to perform the essential functions, duties and assignment of the Ushers Committee. More important, those who love engaging people, who enjoy assisting others and, who desire to serve God by serving our parish community are welcomed and encouraged to consider joining our Ministers of Hospitality.
We invite interested persons to stop in at our monthly meetings or make inquiry with any of our ushers at Saturday and Sunday services.
