Teachers and assistants of the Sunday School/Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) are registered parishioners - parents and grandparents - who have a desire to grow deeper in their knowledge of the Catholic faith by teaching it to the young people of the parish.
Using religion books and other approved materials, we cover a wide-ranging curriculum to educate our children and teenagers in the Catholic faith. Using Our Sunday Visitors "Allelu" and "Alive in Christ" series, and following the Archdiocese's "Religion Curriculum Guide, Forming Disciples for the New Evangelization," we prepare children for the sacraments of First Communion, First Penance, and Confirmation. Our RCIA program for children also prepares children ages seven and above for receipt of the sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation at the Easter Vigil each year. Our post-Confirmation teens who do not attend Catholic high schools engage in on-going formation in the Catholic faith with an emphasis on applying these teachings to their everyday lives.
Students are tested both informally and formally, with quizzes and chapter tests, and are encouraged to help with community service throughout the year. Our 3rd-8th grade students take the annual diocesan-wide assessment to measure their progress. Our teens expand their faith through weekly spiritual discussion, annual retreats, and social activities.
Classes begin Sunday, September 8th 2024.
