Deacon Richard Kelly

Deacon Richard F. Kelly was assigned to St. Augustine Parish immediately upon his ordination to the permanent diaconate by Theodore Cardinal McCarrick on June 8, 2002. He and his wife Joyce have been members of St. Augustine since 1993. Married 40 years, they have two daughters – Alicia and Kristin – and four grandchildren – Jeremiah, Samantha, Kelsi and Joseph. Dick is a member of the St. Augustine Pastoral Council, serving as the Standing Committee Chair for Religious Education. He was previously a member of the Chorale, and is a member of the Sodality and the Holy Name Society. Among his many responsibilities at the Parish, he oversees the Parish’s Sunday School and Baptismal Preparation programs.

Born in Hempstead N.Y., in 1946, Dick is a lawyer by training, having spent 36 years at the Federal Trade Commission in various management and staff positions before he retired in 2007. He is Executive Secretary of the Deacon Council for the Archdiocese of Washington and serves those in formation to become deacons as their Coordinator of Pastoral Field Formation, helping to arrange internships over the summer in ministries of charity and social justice.
